The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms alongside 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances in a major intelligence-led operation in the Surulere area of the state. Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, who briefed journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja, confirmed that three suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure following a coordinated operation carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on Saturday night. The arrested suspects were identified as Chinedu David, 29; Ezeagwu Chukwuma, 38; and Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi, 45. Police said the operation led to the interception of an unregistered MAN diesel truck suspected to be transporting the consignment out of Lagos State before it was stopped by operatives acting on intelligence. Preliminary findings, according to the command, suggest that the uniforms were being moved towards the South-East, though authorities said investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the items and those behind the shipment. The police also confirmed that additional individuals attempted to claim responsibility for the intercepted goods after the driver and his assistant were initially taken in for questioning, prompting further arrests. A police officer involved in the case said some persons later arrived at the station trying to lay claim to the seized materials, widening the scope of the investigation. CP Tijani said the interception does not pose any immediate threat to residents, noting that the truck was already en route out of the state when it was stopped. He added that investigators are working to uncover the full network behind the movement of the military uniforms and suspected drugs, amid growing concern over the misuse of security apparel for criminal activities across the country.
